Have you ever wanted to start a blog but don’t know how?

Or you just don’t have money and you want to start a free blog?

There are a few ways to start a blog in 2019 this can be the free route or even the paid route. In this post about if you can start a blog free I will go into detail on what needs to be done.

Also, to see if blogging is a right fit for you and what purposes you can use a blog for.

GET OUT OF THE 9 TO 5

Free Blogs Vs Paid Blog

There are differences between a free and a paid blog, there are pros and cons to each of there I’ll list a few here.

Free Blog Pros

  • It is free
  • Dont have to worry about hosting

Free Blog Cons

  • Less customizable
  • You are in less control of your blog

When it comes to the pros yeah having a blog is free but that’s the only real big pro I can see from a free blog. If you are on a budget and you can’t chuck out a few hundred dollars a year then a free blog is for you.

The cons to a free blog are the fact it is less customizable you can’t get some of the premium paid themes. These themes aren’t mandatory to get they do cost money they are nice to have.

The reason I say you are in less control with your blog when you have a free blog. This is because you will have a sub domain what I mean is your site URL will look something like this yoursitename.wordpress.com or yoursitename.blogspot.com, yoursitename.siterubix.com

As you can see you really don’t own your blog it is owned by that company. Nothing wrong with that if that is what you can afford you know?

Paid Blog Pros

  • Customizable
  • You own your domain

Paid Blog Cons

  • You have to pay for a domain and hosting

I bet there are more but for someone looking for a blog for free this would be their biggest concern. You have to pay for both hosting your blog and the domain name of the blog to. The hosting and domain name can range in price From company to company a lot of the times domains cost about $15 a year. Then to host your domain it can cost from $3-$5 a month.

This is not a huge investment at all but for anybody that doesn’t have the cash this could hold you back from a paid or self hosting your blog.

Free Blogging Sites

There are a lot out there I will name a few

Siterubix

BloggerWordPress.com

Medium

Tumblr

These are a few of the many free blogging sites out there find which one is right for you and sign up.

Why Do You Want To Start A Blog?

Free blogs are good for mostly as a way to get your own words out there without the costs of a domain and hosting. An analogy I have heard about free blogs is that they are mostly used as a digital diary.

In a way this is totally true some actually do use sun domain or free blogs as their own digital diary. In this case when the sub domain blog gets indexed by Bing, Google and Yahoo there is chance others will see your blog and read it.

Now if that is what you want to use your blog for kind of like some people use YouTube as their way of blogging. This is in video form called blogging than hey that is fine go ahead you know?

    Blogging To Make Money Online

You can definitely use a free blog to build an online business, but it is always better to have a self hosted or paid blog for this.

Some will say that blogs that are free are not ranked as well as self hosted blogs. To be honest I don’t believe this is totally true because the internet is filled with a lot of information but not all the information is true.

For instance if you were to look up are free websites good to build a business from.

You will see some will say no and some will say yes. The answers will be conflicting that is where you would have to gather the information and figure out if the investment is good for a paid blog or stick with free one.

My opinion you can build a business with a free blog but it isn’t ideal. The reason is that you have to deal with not having the customization compared to a paid or self hosted blog.

For example free themes that you get with a paid blog or free blog work fine. Sometimes you will want to customize your theme the free themes only let you customize a little of the theme. A paid theme or premium theme you can customize the theme the way you want to.

Examples of premium themes Divi (Elegant Themes) and Thrive Themes, there are a lot of premium theme out there.

Also there are premium plugins that can help put features on your blog that you wouldn’t have if that plugin wasn’t on your blog.

The thing is with all of these things is that with a free blog or website you can’t get some of the premium themes and plugins.

So if you go with a free blog and you are fine with a free theme and less customization than hey do it but if not then the paid or self hosted blog is a better option.

    How To Monetize Your Blog

A business model I follow is affiliate marketing you can check out my blog post on that if you want to learn how you can make money online. You can use this business model to monetize your blog this can be in any niche or topic you want it in.

The blog post linked above will go into more detail I will give you a little information on affiliate marketing.

You will pick a niche or topic when you pick that you have your blog then you will find affiliate programs in that niche. You write a blog post talking about that niche. Doing reviews on products and programs in that niche is a good way to get traffic to your site. In these blog posts you will put your affiliate links in the post, when someone comes and clicks the affiliate link they buy you get a commission from the purchase.

The commission can range from 1% of a sale all the way up to 100% it really depends on the program how much of a commission you will get.

For example two programs I recommend in building a business online they both have 40% commissions on every product someone buys.
